Foreign Aid
The economy
in the U.S. is suffering and the people of Florida's District 16 are becoming
unemployed on a daily basis. The topic of aid to other nations is not the people's
top choice. Foreign aid is only 1% of the federal budget yet Americans are feeling
the brunt of economic upheaval due to bad choices regarding Iraq by the Bush
Administration. Americans are facing hard times like the Great Depression of
the 1930's. Many people cannot afford health insurance, food and medication
or pay the bills that give them a sense of security. The biggest hardship facing
people in Florida's 16th District is the inability to pay their mortgages. The
idea of humanitarian relief is looked in disbelief because their own government
will not care for its citizens first. However when foreign aid is placed in
context with national security and the war on terrorism since the events of
September 11th I believe that I can convince the American people of the wisdom
and investment regarding their tax dollars will provide by the expansion of
aid to our committed allies.
It is appropriate that Israel and the Palestinians must be the largest recipient
of foreign aid due to their strategic relationship with the United States. With
the Fisher Roadmap to Peace in the Middle East the future state of Palestine
will receive foreign aid to create a democratic state like the United States
did for the State of Israel when they become a part of the world community.
The formula for Palestine to create a stable and peaceful relationship in the
region and with the United States must include Economic aid in the form of loans
and humanitarian aid from the U.S., Israel and the United Nations. The U.S.
must increase its level of foreign aid for Israel so it can promote economic
growth that benefits U.S. companies in Florida's 16th District and throughout
our nation. When Palestine becomes a part of the world community America must
offer the same opportunities for their commercial ventures in District 16 also.
Democracy and good business are about diversity which makes the United States
the beacon for all to strive for.
I will fully support foreign aid to our allies in order to promote U.S. interests abroad and expanding our economic base for increased exports that will provide quality and fulfilling jobs within District 16. I will support aid to Israel and the future State of Palestine for I firmly believe it will provide better national and economic security for the United States and the people of Israel and Palestine. This will lead Israel, the United States and Palestine down a positive path regarding the development of a peaceful and working relationship with the neighboring countries throughout the entire Middle East.
