Some Civil Suits and Criminal Cases Against Straight, Inc. and Straight-descendent programs

(c) 5-27-2002 by Wesley M. Fager

.
Straight makes it a point to try to get from its young students their deepest, darkest secret.  If someone knew your deepest, darkest secret would you sue him?  In spite of the high pressure coaxed confessions stated in one's own handwriting from MI's, COCs and FOS lists; in spite of the fact that Straight has parents sign a fine print statement that they will not sue regardless what happens in Straight;  in spite of the fact that Straight goes to great lengths to limit potential witnesses to the daily abuses; despite the fact that Straight makes old comers become part of the abuse in order to progress;  in spite of the fact that Straight can call in former White House Drug Czar Robert DuPont time after time to testify in its behalf;  despite the fact that many judges have made pro-Straight stands. . .  In spite of all this there have been many, MANY criminal charges and civil suits against Straight.  Just as Straight has successfully sued many parents for money owed who stopped payment having learned of  the abuse.

George Ross of Possibilities Unlimited--a Straight descendent program. Prosecutors announced they would seek jail time.

While Miller Newton is the highest Straight or former Straight official to pay out the highest civil award against a Straight or a Straight-like program,  Dr. George Ross, Straight's former national education director,  is the highest Straight or  former Straight official to ever be prosecuted in a criminal court.  (Miller Newton settled with the federal government by paying $45,000 for 254 fraudulent insurance claims in return for not being criminally prosecuted.)  Ross was tried in Aug 1985 for physically holding kids in his program.  Originally 5 people made charges against him but the judge dismissed 2 immediately. One of Ross' character witnesses was Helen Petermann, Straight's former clinical director, who herself has been accused of abuse.
