Getting Ion Sancho to speak at the press conference was a major success for our movement.
I would like to thank Lisa Lambert and Tom Baxter for delivering
an outstanding Press Conference which has put the "No DRE"
solution on the national map.
Lisa will be moving to Atlanta and will be sorely missed by all of us.
Good Roads, Lisa. Thank you for your exceptional work for our cause.

Kindra and Bill,
I was very pleased with the segment, and with the fact that they
ran it first! Did not expect that! And the interview of
Ion--they struck gold with him, and knew it. He is talking, and a
rare thing in Florida--speaking the truth on the record! He spoke
frankly to Patrick Bergy earlier this week--he informed him, and had
testified at the televised trial of Miriam Oliphant's case, that Kurt
Browning (Pasco S/E) had been active in urging her dismissal to Jeb--to
cover up his misdeeds! Patrick taped the whole thing, and I think
he treats of this at his website (savethevote.com). Kurt and Jeb
wanted her out for among other "crimes" because she balked at
purchasing touch-screens! Kurt himself was a member of Jeb's Task
Force which in 2001 recommended that counties buy optical scanners and
NOT touch-screens--because their performance was unreliable!
Thus, Kurt went into the purchase of ES&S equipment in defiance of
the Task Force's recommendations, clearly, according to Sancho, because
of conflicted alliance with Sandra Mortham (lobbyist for
ES&S). She, of course, received substantial commissions from
all counties she sold! This scenario is a prime candidate for
investigation should Ashcroft do his job and investigate all aspects of
this Peyton Place down here!
I thought I saw two brief clips that looked as if they were one of
our press conferences on the 13th? My hunch is they (NOW crew)
came to Tally and filmed so much footage of Sancho, which was pure
gold, that Tally became the focus of their report!
Yesterday, Florida state representatives (Ron Klein, and others)
held a press conf. making three demands, one of which was giving all
voters the option of voting at the polls on paper (absentee ballot) if
they were not comfortable with the touch-screens. They broadcast
it this morning on the Florida channel (Channel 14 in my area).
It was a strong statement, and Rep. Doug Weil (Jax) laid out all of our
concerns very intelligently and calmly! I will go to Klein's
website and see if they have posted it. Also, Alex Pinelas,
candidate for U. S. Senate and mayor of Miami (?) yesterday called for
the paper option. I am sure that appears at his campaign
website! Klein held up the Republican mailer that (gaffe) called
for REPUBLICANS to absentee vote so there would be a record of their
vote--it was great! It carried the likeness of a smiling George
Bush. I say, let's keep the stormclouds gathering for Florida
elections spin patrollers Jeb and Glenda! JanL PS I
am attending the logic & accuracy test in my county Monday, Aug.
9th. JL

Bill,
I have been offline
for three days and am catching up on
emails. Here are some comments on the Bill Moyers
program Friday the 30th:
I thought the
program was excellent. I just wish it hadn't mentioned
"paper receipt" and discussed that as a viable option for voter
verification. Is there any state that is considering
producing a "receipt" that people walk away with? I hope all
states are working for a permanent paper ballot that stays with
election offices and can be recounted.
Reed Penney of PBS
told me the program would address electronic voting around the
country. He said the final product would be crafted
right up to the last moment as materials were gathered. He wanted
to review footage of our July 13th events, but wasn't sure how
much could be used. The Ion Sancho interviews were a focal
point. The final product obviously included key footage
of Katherine Harris and her role in the 2000 election fiasco, and
related it to this year's attempt to use another flawed felon voter
purge list in Florida. It seemed logical to question the potential
for maniipulating blocks of votes with paperless electronic voting
machines.
It was good to
have a wakeup call about other states (Michigan, Missouri,
West Virginia) whose Secretaries of State seem to have confilcts of
interest in supervising the mechanism of vote
counting while actively campaigning for candidates or
running for office themselves.
Of course, it would
have been nice if the program could have included footage of
our Florida July 13th rallies, but I think the segment was
very powerful the way it was. If it helps rouse people to action
in Florida and around the country, it will have done a major
service for verified voting and election reform in this country.
Thank you to
everyone who helped prepare and assemble tapes for possible use.
I don't think the exchange of letters between you and Howard
influenced the decision not to use film clips from Florida.
It was strictly a choice of the best footage available.
